Workplace stress

HSE’s new strategy Helping Great Britain work well is tackling workplace ill health as one of its six key themes. HSE supports the Unions in trying to raise awareness of ill health conditions like stress.

HSE publishes web pages on work-related stress, which provide information and advice for both individuals and organisations. They also encourage the involvement of employees and their representatives in discussions about both the problems and the solutions.

HSE is also launching a pilot initiative, working with Sefton Council in Merseyside, to raise awareness among local schools of the importance of managing stress. The initiative will include a short survey and the establishment of an e-community to provide a forum for further discussion. Additional pilots may be rolled out to LAs in England and Wales and NHS Trusts in England and Scotland.

These standards set out six key elements that need to be addressed if stress in the workplace is to be managed well.
