The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is contributing to the ‘Help Great Britain work well’ strategy by working with Chambers of Commerce on a campaign to create greater awareness about the harm from breathing in harmful substances, and how they can be controlled through the use of local exhaust ventilation (LEV).
HSE aims to help businesses, especially SMEs, easily access information to efficiently install and use LEV equipment. The campaign will target directors, managers and supervisors to help them make the right decisions in the selection and use of LEV.
IOSH is encouraging its members to help. If currently using LEV in your workplace they would like to hear from members as their use of LEV would ideally provide them with information on the following:
• Motivation and reasoning behind choosing LEV as a control
• Factors and decisions in getting the design and installation right including choosing your LEV supplier and installer
• Your management of the job from design through to the purchase and installation including the procurement process
• The types of information and other resources that were found helpful in managing the job
• Lessons learnt (good/bad), benefits and effects on work and/or workforce
The project is looking for any smaller businesses that are successfully using LEV and IOSH would be happy to discuss further. They can also help you provide the above information through discussion and visits to your site to minimise the work needed to develop the case study.
