Transport and falls from a height are the biggest killers in agriculture
Figures published in the Health and Safety Executive’s report ‘Fatal injuries in agriculture, forestry and fishing in Great Britain 2015/16’ show the detail of how 29 people were killed as a result of farming and other agriculture-related activities during the year.
The report shows that the main causes of a fatal injury were either: transport-related; fall from a height; drownings or asphyxiations; contact with machinery; injured by an animal; or other causes. It also highlights trends and provides summaries of fatalities involving employees, the self-employed and non-employed people killed as a result of someone else’s work activity.
