Entrepreneur and multi-millionaire farmer Derek Mead of Weston-super-Mare has died after a tragic accident on his
He was crushed by his own tractor after it is believed his own dog, who was in the cab at the time, accidently knocked the gear stick.
Paramedics battled to save the father of three’s life but were unable to resuscitate him and he died as a result of his injuries.
In a statement the Mead family, who have been farming in Somerset since the 1400s, described the death as a “terrible loss”.
They said: “It is with heavy hearts that we have to let you know that our father and grandfather, Derek Mead, was killed in a tragic accident on his farm.
He was doing what he loved and has been doing since he was a young boy.”
Mr Mead had sat on North Somerset and Weston-super-Mare Town Councils after being elected as an independent councillor.
Avon and Somerset Constabulary confirmed the investigation had been passed to the Health and Safety Executive.
