The University of Aberdeen in partnership with the Farm Safety Foundation has produced a booklet to help farmers better manage stress.
Stress affects many farmers at one time or another and can lead to both mental health issues and physical injury on farm.
Causes of stress on farm range from major life events, such as the death of a co-worker, to daily hassles, such as a machine breaking down.
If stress levels remain elevated for long periods of time, they become more difficult to manage and can lead to mental health problems, such as depression
Prolonged stress can also play a part in farm accidents by affecting concentration, reducing alertness, compromising situation awareness and increasing the tendency to rush.
The short, easy-to-use booklet outlines four tips for reducing stress on farm and points readers in the direction of further support.
